heer's blog

9th April 2026.

Wow, where to start?! My last update was in August 2025; a lot has changed. I got a job! I'm working for the Department for Education as on-site ICT technician for South Australian public schools.

Honestly, I never really thought I'd end up here - in a government "IT" role. My vision of a job while searching for one was always at some for-profit company in a Software Dev or ML role. My perspective has changed. I was always a sucker for the impact my work brought - even at Coles where most of what I did "felt" pointless, it was good to help other people ("customer" in corporate lingo) with whatever they needed.

This feels the same. I work directly with end-users to implement, oversee, and maintain solutions. Since every school has been set-up differently, and has different needs, I have freedom in coming up with my own solutions. I've also always dealt with software and never the hardware, even though I loved studying about transistors and ICs. I get to put that knowledge to use here!

I finished reading "Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes. I'm currently reading "Infinite Jest" by David Wallace and rereading "Anti-fragile" by Nassim Nicholas Taleb!

I'm playing the guitar, rewatching "Beef", and watching a lecture series on Quantum Mechanics (MIT 8.04 Spring 2013) (ftw MIT OCW).

I'm listening to "3D Country" by Geese, and waiting for The Strokes' new release!

I also want to write a lot and cut down friction when I do so (unnecessary beautifying, etc).
